WHAT’S IT ABOUT

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are — or how they got there. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, ruthless elitists gather at a remote location to hunt humans for sport. But their master plan is about to be derailed when one of the hunted, Crystal, turns the tables on her pursuers.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW

Is this the movie that wasn’t supposed to see the light of day? Is this the film Trump said was made by Democrats to ruin his campaign? Well, the wait is over, and it is nothing like we thought it was. Oddly enough, it started with a misunderstood text. It’s not about politics, somewhat. The bad guys are not who you think they are, and the good guys are only good by default. In other words, they’re all wrong no matter how right they think they are. Twelve people with no common connections wake up in an unknown field with gags on their mouths. They find a bunch of weapons, a pig in a shirt, and then someone starts shooting at them. At this point, I was as confused as the people being shot at. But I thought it was a good thing by not knowing what the hell was happening, although I have friends that can’t stand movies that don’t explain what’s going on right at the start. Luckily for them, The Hunt had loads of promotions telling us what the film is about. So you go in waiting for people to be hunted and shot. Then it happens, and it doesn’t stop happening until the end. Oh yeah, Somewhere in between all the shooting was a message that was the moral behind all the obligatory killing, but I’m sure most viewers missed it. Whatever message The Hunt wanted to flaunt was lost after the first kill shot to the head. Once that happened, all bets were off. That also meant you had to reevaluate what type of movie you thought The Hunt was. Is it a thriller, a comedy, a horror film, or an action movie. The film is marketed as thriller/action, but it’s really an action movie with comedic overtones trying to emphasize our American linguistic growth toward each other. Simply put, it’s a dark comedy. In the end, as long as you don’t take the movie’s commentary too seriously, The Hunt a great film with lots of action and unexpected realizations that add more depth even if the message is ultimately lost.
