WHAT’S IT ABOUT
In Blumhouse’s continuation of the cult hit The Craft, an eclectic foursome of aspiring teenage witches get more than they bargained for as they lean into their newfound powers.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
The Craft: Legacy is clearly a teenage coming of age film disguised as a fantasy-filled movie involving witchcraft. That premise alone creates too many issues considering its predecessor wasn’t the most excellent piece of cinema to try and make a successful sequel of. The original 1996 movie was only mediocre at best during its release. Throughout the years, The Craft acquired a cult following. Now that everyone has developed a somewhat unwavering sense of misguided empathy, all of our previous beliefs and likes must be redone, remade, and redistributed. So now The Craft is about a Black girl, a White girl, a Trans teen, and a girl that looks suspiciously gay. The whole thing is like a bad joke, but I know that I am not a part of their demographic focus as an adult Black male. As for the story, it’s about as close to the original as possible without being a direct ripoff. But that’s the whole point and purpose of this new movie; to appeal to a new audience of troubled teens by giving them a film they can relate to and maybe make those weird kids the new cool kids, at least for a little while. Overall, the movie is rather stupid and incredibly unbelievable to an adult, but for a teen with social issues, The Craft: Legacy will more than likely be the most normal thing in their lives.
