WHAT’S IT ABOUT

The Croods need a new place to live. So, the first prehistoric family sets off into the world in search of a safer place to call home. When they discover an idyllic walled-in paradise that meets all their needs, they think their problems are solved … except for one thing. Another family already lives there: the Bettermans. The Bettermans (emphasis on the “better”)—with their elaborate tree house, amazing inventions and irrigated acres of fresh produce—are a couple of steps above the Croods on the evolutionary ladder. When they take the Croods in as the world’s first houseguests, it isn’t long before tensions escalate between the cave family and the modern family. Just when all seems lost, a new threat will propel both families on an epic adventure outside the safety of the wall, one that will force them to embrace their differences, draw strength from each other and forge a future together.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW

They stopped trying to make it realistic and went for the pure comedy factor. That doesn’t mean the first film was realistic, but they did try and stick to the neanderthal aspect. The Croods 2 used the caveman feature in looks only, and everything else was performed as if it was happening today. Don’t take that as a bad thing but more of an observation. The Croods are still the same wild, crazy, and loving “cave” family as ever, and nothing has changed within their dynamic. According to Grug, the father, the problem started when his oldest daughter, Eep, met . . .wait for it. . . A BOY. If you’re a parent, you probably know where this is going, but wait . . .again . . .it gets worse (according to Grug), they meet another family named the Betterman’s, and yes, the name is intentional. When the Croods meet the Betterman’s, the pop culture references and modern conveniences are funny as they come. The Betterman’s are so “modern” you tend to forget the era they live in. They have separate rooms, elevators, showers, and a window. The Croods son, Thunk, called it “window,” you’ll understand once you see it and I highly recommend seeing it. This sequel is so much better than the first film. Since the main characters didn’t need to be explained, you get to enjoy the pure camaraderie between the family and anyone they come in contact with. That also means less talk and more action, along with more one-liners for the adults and more physical comedy for the kids. As for the talking parts, it was all worth listening to. Morals and lessons were coming one after the other, and they all came together in a story that parents didn’t need to explain for their kids to understand fully.
