MOVIESinMO REVIEW
Cats is the worst movie I’ve seen this year. The only thing I knew about this movie was that it was a theatrical play that premiered over 37 years ago, and before this film, I never knew what it was about. Now that I know what the plot is, it’s even dumber than I originally thought. So a bunch of alley cats gets together once a year and one of them, Old Deuteronomy (Judi Dench), decides which one of them will be reincarnated. Since the play is still running yearly, I can’t blame the writers. The songs have won awards including Outstanding Music, Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Song Musically and Lyrically for the song Memory. So I can’t blame the music. Cats must give you a very different experience when you watch it live on stage because if I had to judge it based on the film alone, I would want to know how in the hell it lasted this long. This movie was so stupid and so dull I don’t know why I ignored all the warning signs. The first sign, the trailer. As graphically detailed as everything seemed, the mannerisms of every actor was weird. It’s almost like they didn’t know what their costumed looked like. Oh wait, they didn’t, everything was CGI. Second, there were issues regarding the CGI when it was first shown at limited theaters. It was too furry or something and they had to tone it down which I’m sure took quite a while too do plus loads of money. Finally, the all-star cast. Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, even Taylor Swift. This is never good. Besides, having a film full of stars only works for comedies and this movie had more than the usual comedic production. So was there anything good in this film. Not really. They were on all fours most of the time. They all acted in a strange sexual-like manner. They danced around like it was just a rehearsal. Every actor was singing off-key – EVERY ACTOR. Overall, it was uncomfortable watching them interact with each other. Also, I might have dozed off a couple of times, but I was immediately awakened by some of the other moviegoers snoring. Lastly, after one day in theaters, Universal has notified theaters to let them know Cats is being updated with improved visual effects. If you still want to see, remember, you’ve been warned.
