MOVIESinMO REVIEW

I’m not sure what they were trying to achieve, but the three Grudge films before this one were not that great. So what compelled them to begin again? First, this movie starts in 2004. That coincidentally is the year the first Grudge movie was released. After a decent opening scene, it jumps to 2006, the year The Grudge 2 was released in theaters. The stuff that happened next was boring as this film moved along very slowly while it continued to flip from 2004 and 2006 throughout. I guess they wanted to combine the first two movies into one, hopefully, epic horror film. Sorry to say they failed horribly. The characters had no likability and I really didn’t care if they died or not. Switching the years became cumbersome and at times, confusing or unnecessary. The jump scenes were also far and few between. As a matter of fact, The Grudge is a rated “R” movie and the theater I was in was sold out but about a third of the audience were high schoolers and younger. No one was scared and the jump scenes were becoming predictable and comical. The story was all over the place. They tried to explain why everything was happening and give the killings a much deeper meaning. This only complicated things further by adding new stories to illustrate the last one. The ending was so bad, all you could do was sit there in disbelief. The Grudge 2020 leaves you with a bad impression of what is an original story about a vengeful spirit. I strongly recommend passing on this version and watch the original if you want to see how it is supposed to be done.
