WHAT’S IT ABOUT

Disaster strikes more than six miles below the ocean surface when water crashes through the walls of a drilling station. Led by their captain, the survivors realize that their only hope is to walk across the seafloor to reach the main part of the facility. But they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when they come under attack from mysterious and deadly creatures that no one has ever seen.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW

More than I expected and better than I thought it would be. Underwater wastes no time getting to the action. About ten minutes in, things start to go wrong, and it becomes a thrill ride until the end. If you’re claustrophobic (fear of small spaces) or nyctophobic (fear of darkness), then you definitely do not want to see this movie. The entire film is in an underwater (duh) drilling station over six miles below the ocean. There’s no light other than what the station provides, so when things start to go wrong, it goes epically wrong. The station begins to implode because of the extreme pressure. This causes a domino effect that ultimately affects the rest of the underwater facility. And without the station’s lights, there’s nothing but complete darkness. To remedy that issue, the survivors either use flashlights or the lights of their pressure protecting suits. That’s the first part of the movie. If you’re still sitting in your seat, they amp-up the danger factor.  Next, the survivors realize they cannot stay in the current station and need to travel one mile further down then walk one mile across the ocean floor to a facility from an earlier mission. This involves more pressure, more darkness, and more unknown everything. Still watching? Ok, let us turn it up to ten. The survivors make it to the other facility and this is the beginning of one of the last unbelievable battles. More survival technics, more impossible escapes, more guilty pleasure fun. Underwater will not win the best picture award but it does do what it’s supposed to do. Scare those with phobias while entertaining the rest of the audience for 90 minutes.
