MOVIESinMO REVIEW

I was wholly unimpressed and bored out of my mind. I didn’t know what to expect, but I know I wanted something to happen. . . and soon. Hunter Hunter begins with a father showing his daughter how to hunt and track. As they go through the woods, it becomes clear that the father is a seasoned pro at tracking and hunting animals. When the mother is shown, she is at home (cabin) preparing beaver pelts to sell. In short, everything you need to know is presented within the first 10-minutes of the film. That leaves eighty minutes to tell a thrilling horror story. In Hunter Hunter’s case, that left 80-minutes to show three people’s daily life in the woods. This film’s central premise is the supposed presence of an out of control, yet elusive wolf. There’s also the parents’ (Joseph and Anne) tension as they converse over alternate ways to raise their daughter. Along with a predatorial threat, Parental stress forces Joseph to trek into the forest and find the wolf before finding his family. The last item thrown into this movie was discovering a stranger in desperate need of medical attention. Because the hospitals were so far away, Anne decides to care for the stranger. At this point in the movie, there have been two slightly disturbing images and nothing else. It’s not suspenseful, it’s not thrilling, and it is definitely not dramatic. The big buzz around this movie was about the ending. It’s graphic but not worth the hour and a half wait for it to happen. At best, Hunter Hunter could have been a decent episode of Criminal Minds.
