WHAT’S IT ABOUT

Elsa the Snow Queen has an extraordinary gift — the power to create ice and snow. But no matter how happy she is to be surrounded by the people of Arendelle, Elsa finds herself strangely unsettled. After hearing a mysterious voice call out to her, Elsa travels to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond her kingdom — an adventure that soon turns into a journey of self-discovery.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW

They’re back and the magic that made the original so special is still there, plus a lot more. As the story of Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven continues, they are all six years older and six years smarter. The latter is important because Olaf says it more than once throughout the film. It’s also one of the main themes of the story. Frozen II also fixes the plot holes and tries to correct some lingering questions regarding the sisters’ upbringing. While they do fix problematic issues from the first film, they created a slew of new problems such as when did Anna find out about Elsa’s powers? All story issues aside, Frozen II involves the whole crew right from the start. Once Elsa continues to hear voices from the Enchanted Forest, she is compelled to find out why. She tells her sister and our group of friends begin a new mission. There are lots of new discoveries regarding Anna and Elsa’s parents, the secrets of the Enchanted Forest, and the relationships between everyone. This film is excellent. From the impressive visuals to the original story, it’s a definite grade up from the previous movie. Speaking for myself, if I had to mention one negative thing, it would be the songs. When the first movie premiered, most of the songs were already known and a part of kids’ playlist across the country. I didn’t hear the same commitment musically for the sequel. I also don’t know how often they might have played any of the songs on radio stations geared towards kids like Disney Radio. This is an issue for a film that heavily relies on music to keep the story going and keep kids entertained until the next action-filled scene. I don’t care either way as long as the songs didn’t get stuck in my head like “Let It Go,” so if you or your children don’t care about the songs, then this is not a problem. Overall, Frozen II is well-worth seeing on the big screen with all the “D’s” they have available, i.e. 3D and 4DX.
