WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Members of the mysterious and spooky Addams family — Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, and Grandma — are readily preparing for a visit from their even creepier relatives. But trouble soon arises when shady TV personality Margaux Needler realizes that the Addams’ eerie hilltop mansion is standing in the way of her dream to sell all the houses in the neighborhood.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
I have never been a big fan of the Addams Family, but for what it’s worth, it is an interesting concept. A family of creepy and spooky-looking individuals living amongst the most common and average looking people in America – that’s it. In this movie, the Addams are looking for a place to stay, raise their children, and be accepted by society. So without trying, this film already has a moral compass. The point of The Addams Family, regardless if it’s a tv show or a movie has been about tolerance, acceptance, and prejudgement. This is a good and bad thing. It’s good because they’re a close-knit, loving family that respects each other and have no problem displaying their love for one another. It’s bad because they do a lot of things to each other (and non-related people) that would seriously hurt or kill the average person. Wednesday makes shooting a crossbow at her brother Pugsley look fun. Gomez having his head squeezed in a vice by his wife Morticia is normal. When Pugsley blows up Uncle Fester while he’s in the tub, they were playing a game. Everything they do is dangerous. Some of it is funny, but as an adult, I know a lot of kids might want to try some of the extremely dangerous antics the Addams kids do just for fun. Overall, the movie has good intentions, but the violent delivery overshadows any lesson they are trying to convey. As a parent, make sure to explain the true meaning of the film to your kids too young to get the full understanding from what they see, and like all films that show violence or imitative behavior, don’t try this at home.
