WHAT’S IT ABOUT
A decade after Zombieland became a hit film and a cult classic, the lead cast (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone) have reunited with director Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and the original writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool) for Zombieland: Double Tap. In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
In a time of reboots, remakes, and sequels, Zombieland: Double Tap was an unexpected, and like most films lately, it’s an unneeded necessity. The first Zombieland was great. Not much action, but the cast’s chemistry was undeniable. The first film also used more common sense than your usual zombie movie at the time and was smart enough to pen the term double-tap. That refers to the simple process of making sure the zombie is dead by shooting it twice (in the head, of course). So now, ten years later, nothing has changed. Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock are still killing zombies and looking for a place to stay. They’ve aged a real ten years, but that’s normal since they use actual dates. The love they have for each other is evident and the main reason they’re still alive. The story is the same as the first with more gore, and more of a family feel to it considering the amount of time they have been together. The worst part is, this is not a stand-alone film. The story is a continuation of the first and that great if you’ve seen the first movie. They do try and give you a little backstory at the beginning, but that does not come close to actually seeing the first movie. It’s a ten-year-old film, so you’ve had plenty of time to view it. As for Zombieland 2, more obstacles (and people) are added to move the story along while keeping the integrity of what made the first movie so successful. If you plan on seeing this film, I highly recommend seeing Zombieland before watching Zombieland 2, you’ll enjoy it a lot more, and it will make more sense.
