WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Four teenage divers discover that the sunken ruins of a Mayan city are also a hunting ground for deadly great white sharks. With their air supply steadily dwindling, the frightened girls must navigate the underwater labyrinth of claustrophobic caves and eerie tunnels in search of a way out of their watery hell.
MoviesInMo Review:
There had been a lot of talk about this film, and almost none of it was positive. The fact that most people had negative thoughts before it was released didn’t help. The first film from 2017 wasn’t exactly a big hit, but it wasn’t the worse movie out there, plus it was a decent horror film. This time around, there are four new “victims,” there’s no cage, and sharks (of course). The story is similar; girls go diving, girls get trapped, girls start to run out of oxygen, girls need to get away from sharks. Now all they need is a tornado (LOL). 47 Meters Down: Uncaged has its scary moments mainly because there are people underwater hiding from a fish so big, you don’t see it coming. That statement only makes sense if it’s dark and yes, it is very dark in the depths of the ocean. So for about forty-five minutes, this is a bonafide scary movie. It’s not Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, or Chucky, but if you have water-related fears, you will be frightened. Adding sharks just makes it worse. I felt the first film was classic horror film stupidity considering they purposely went swimming with the sharks. This time it was totally accidental. The girls were supposed to be having fun at a hidden cove very few people knew about. The problem started because they decided to go scuba diving to see an ancient sunken Mayan city. The plan was to look and leave, BUT that one person just had to go too far. Next thing you know, sharks have appeared and now they’re all lost, fearing for their lives and running out of air. Other than being teenage girls, there wasn’t much more they could have done in their confined area. Ultimately, this movie does what it sets out to do. It will make you jump in fear and easily scare those afraid of sharks. If you love horror films, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged should definitely be on your list.
