WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle, nothing could prepare Dora for her most dangerous adventure yet — high school. Accompanied by a ragtag group of teens and Boots the monkey, Dora embarks on a quest to save her parents while trying to solve the seemingly impossible mystery behind a lost Incan civilization.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This has to be one of the most family-friendly films I’ve ever seen. If you’ve ever wondered what a real-life Dora would be like, this is it. Any child that watched her show when it debuted in August 2000 will definitely love this movie. Dora and the Lost City of Gold is A fun-filled adventure that compliments the animated show perfectly. Additionally, they didn’t cut corners on production quality. Every aspect of the cartoon is brought to the big screen. Diego and his pet, Dora and Boots, Backpack and Map, and Swiper, the fox. As implausible as it all seems, just like in the cartoon, it makes sense in Dora’s world. Positivity and being true to yourself were the overall themes throughout the film as Dora made sure no one was going to bring her down. Watching Dora go to high school, apparently for the first time, is both funny and sort of pathetic at the same time. Her very upbeat nature can be annoying at times, but it’s a welcome change from the attitude stricken kids we usually see. As she navigates her way through the day to day trials of school, it’s nothing compared to her school field trip. That’s when things get crazy, and the whole “real jungle” thing happens. At this point, Dora is in her environment and with the reluctant help of her classmates, tries to find a way out of the trouble they’ve gotten themselves into. This involves finding Dora’s parents, finding the city of gold, and hiding from the people that took her parents. Amazingly, Dora did this and more with a smile and the most positive attitude ever. By the end of the movie, kids learn the importance of being themselves and not worrying about what others think. Dora and the Lost City of Gold is the perfect movie to take kids to without worrying about content. For all concerned parents, the worse thing in this film is Dora’s over-active imagination.
