WHAT’S IT ABOUT
This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
What the hell. Apparently, somebody from DC got fired and went to work for Marvel. The beginning of Dark Phoenix had so much promise, but after the first 5 minutes, the word MARVEL pops up, and the rest of the movie plays. They immediately jump right into the point of the title but instead of maintaining the interest of the average comic book fan, they turn it into a book reading of War & Peace. That’s right, for the next hour and ten minutes it’s all talk. The X-Men are known for using their hardships as a metaphor for racism. It’s in the comics and their cartoons. The one difference is that in the comics, there was action. In the cartoon, there was action. In the movies, there should be action. You don’t need to stop and explain every little incident. It’s like they can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. Dark Phoenix was promoted as the X-Men’s last fight, but that’s impossible because this movie stars the X-Men as young adults and we all know they get older (X-MEN and X2: X-Men United). Did they start over and forget to tell everybody else. You know from the trailer that Mystique is killed but wasn’t she in the other movies as an adult? I could go on and on about the continuity or how bad the story is but why. There have been enough bad comic book movies for any producer or director to know what not to do. So why does this movie suck so bad? In my opinion, they didn’t care. The people behind this piece of crap think you will see whatever they produce as long as it says Marvel or X-Men and sadly, a lot of people will. One thing you can say about the X-Men movies they are consistently wrong, except Logan, that movie kicks ass.
