WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Scott and Annie Russell couldn’t be happier after buying their dream home from a mysterious and lonely widower named Charlie in Napa Valley, Calif. Their newfound paradise soon turns into a living nightmare when Charlie — still strangely attached to the house — begins to show up and interfere in their daily lives. When his erratic behavior turns to obsession, the young couple soon finds themselves caught up in a violent confrontation that threatens to destroy everything they hold dear.
I thought Hollywood stopped making movies with stupid victims in drama/thrillers. Apparently not, since Scott and Annie Russell (Michael Ealy and Meagan Good) buy a house from what has to be one of the creepiest looking people in history. Everything about the seller/homeowner Charlie Peck (Dennis Quaid) screams walk away. But yet, Scott and Annie are clueless. . . .in the beginning. Early in the movie, Scott is uncomfortable with Charlie as he tries, several times, to warn his wife of his suspicions. This is where the film starts to fall apart. It is so painfully evident that something is just not right with Charlie. He has a creepy smile, a hard look, and a weird way he talks. Scott and his friend Mike figured this out, so what was wrong with Annie. She missed every – single – glaringly – unmistakable clue of how unstable Charlie really is. So if you can look past the clear and present stupidity, The Intruder is a creepy slow-moving thriller that’s worth seeing at least once, but only at matinee prices, of course.
