MOVIESinMO REVIEW
The story is weak, has plenty of plot holes, and is a far cry from reality, BUT Wrath of Man is stupidly entertaining. This film opens with a robbery. It’s not original, but it works for what they want to do. After the initial opening, everything gets stupid. I mean, “late-night, why am I still awake, I guess I’ll watch this” kind of stupid. H (Jason Statham) was stone-faced and emotionless for most of the movie, and that’s how he is. That’s also one of the main issues. The rest of the cast acted so unintelligently, it made Statham’s performance that much more out of place and ridiculous. If you can make it past the first twenty-five minutes, it gets better – barely. You soon realize this film will repeat the same section until you are as angry as the main protagonist. It is not really a problem, as it makes this trainwreck of a movie a little bit more tolerable. So what if the dialog is worse than every action movie this year. That’s not why you want to see it. Wrath of Man is an action revenge movie that stars Jason Statham. He is willing to do whatever it takes to settle a score, and THAT is why you want to see this movie. It’s over the top, it’s crazy, and it’s filled with stuff only a teenager would find award-winning. If you love Statham, this film will be at the top of your list. Sadly, it could have been so much better if not for the amateur-sounding script, horrible acting, impossible antics, and the utterly unrealistic way no cops were ever around during the chase scenes, the robberies, or the shootouts. If you can ignore that, it is a dumb, fun, action-filled film.
