MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This has to be the best Batman story to date. It is everything that Batman is supposed to be about. It’s gritty, it’s gruesome, and what you would expect from a graphic novel. Films like this are what continue to make and keep Batman relevant. In The Long Halloween Part One, we see the early years of Batman as he amateurishly accuses, mishandles, and fumbles his way to becoming the well-polished crime-fighting detective we all know. That’s part of why this is such a great movie. The audience gets to see the development of Batman’s process. The story is intriguing as it keeps you guessing along with Batman. Since this is his early years, he confesses to Alfred that he just wanted to get criminals off the streets, and he never thought he would need to be a detective. Then there’s the whole Catwoman thing. They have a complicated relationship that has spanned through many issues and episodes of the series to this day. Other characters make an appearance, but only a few are relevant to the story, as far as we know, since this is just the first part. Additionally, there are items that only true fans will notice. Overall, TLH part one is a definite must-see even if you’re not a Batman fan. The story alone is enough to hold most people’s mental and visual attention of those looking for an intriguing “who-done-it” type of movie. The main drawback (or maybe it’s just me) is having to wait for the second part to come out.
