WHAT’S IT ABOUT
After serving five years in prison, wild child Tanya looks to her buttoned-up, by-the-book sister Danica to help her get back on her feet. The feisty ex-con becomes suspicious and concerned when Danica tells her that she’s in a long-distance, online relationship with a mysterious man she’s never seen. As the polar opposites start to collide, Tanya soon discovers that her sibling’s picture-perfect life may not be what it seems.
MoviesInMo Review
Another movie with Tiffany Haddish and as usual, she is very funny. Unfortunately, this movie is not. Nobody’s Fool has a simple premise that needed to be done by the right people. Tika Sumpter, Omari Hardwick, Mehcad Brooks, and Jon Rudnitsky are not the right people. Tiffany Haddish, Chris Rock, Amber Riley, Missi Pyle, and Whoopi Goldberg ARE the right people, and they proved it. Anytime they were on screen, they were funny. Regardless of how weak and thin the script was, Tiffany and the other funny ones made it work. Tiffany’s character was brash, uncontrollable, and sometimes out of place within the context of what was going on. As the best friend, Amber was as perfect as she could be for what she had to work with. Chris Rock although not entirely needed, did a good job for the time he had. Whoopi, as the mother, was the best and funniest person in the movie. Tika was very boring, and for every second she was seen, the movie felt more and more like a Hallmark movie of the week. Was I supposed to believe that a Black, successful woman fell in love with someone she had never seen for an entire year? What kind of friends does she have that would let her make a fool of herself for so long? Why did it take her sister fresh out of prison, to intervene and find out she was being catfished? Frank (Omari Hardwick) was horribly miscast as a store owner with a tragic past (whatever) and Mehcad Brooks’s character was only needed to add unnecessary drama and a few more bad jokes. Nobody’s Fool makes nobody’s sense as it jumps from scene to scene and joke to joke while trying to make a pointless point.
