What’s It About

All the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end. Vaulting from the record-shattering success of 2018’s “The First Purge,” Blumhouse’s infamous terror franchise hurtles into innovative new territory as members of an underground movement, no longer satisfied with one annual night of anarchy and murder, decide to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre. No one is safe.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW

Another Purge movie with no signs of stopping. This franchise has always been aware of what was happening in the real world as its films have mirrored issues with racism, politics, and all hierarchical organizations. The Forever Purge continues that trend by using the politics surrounding the Texas border as its primary focus. If you look beyond that, it’s a love story. Refugees snuck across, and many of them (Adela and Juan) work as farmhands. They are looking for a better life for themselves with hopes of living the American dream. The focus turns to Adela and her husband, Juan, as they get ready for their first purge. Elsewhere, refugees begin to see and hear the hate some Americans have, such as blaming outsiders for ruining “their” country. Then there’s the usual bigoted hate talk by those White people that can’t wait for the purge to start so they can “cleanse” their country. Once the purge begins, you know what to expect if you’ve seen any of the other films, but it’s a little different this time. This time, there’s more story, more meaning, and it has more significance as it parallels real-world events. Twelve hours later, the purge ends, some radicals called themselves the “Purge Purification Force.” Things got worse as more White supremacists began undermining the countries laws. At this point, it really did feel like the current state of America. Overall, The Forever Purge is perhaps the best in the Purge franchise, second only to The Purge: Election Year, and that’s because of the social and political commentary both films provide. If you want pure thrills and suspense, The Purge: Anarchy would be a better choice. Every movie has a different feel, and depending on your mood, it shouldn’t be too hard to find one that suits you. Currently, our countries “mood” is very divided, and The Purge films, no matter how over-the-top they are, seem to have exposed many of us to the direction America is headed.
