MOVIESinMO REVIEW
A great film that seems to predict an inevitable future where personal robots are the new phone. Ron’s Gone Wrong focuses on an unintentional loner named Barney. He’s shy, lives with his father and grandmother, and is the last of his classmates to own the latest hi-tech gadget – a robot called the B-Bot. When Barney does finally get one, it has a defect preventing it from accessing its files from the company’s servers. Barney has to teach his B-Bot how to be everything a B-Bot is supposed to be while trying to survive the everyday school problems. As for the B-Bot company, Bubble eventually found out about Barney’s B-Bot because it went against its programming and harmed humans. Many subtle statements regarding family, friends, social media, forgiveness, acceptance, and loss are made exceptionally well and in good taste. Barney is an only child with one parent trying his best to provide, but he is out of touch with his son. Barney’s grandmother still thinks of him as a little kid and doesn’t see the obsession with that new “toy.” Barney is a strange kid, according to his classmates. He likes rocks and has no close friends. He appreciates his family, but he’s tired of being alone, and watching him be alone is an unfortunate thing to watch. So when he finally gets a B-Bot, even though it’s defective, he makes the best of it and ultimately becomes the town’s hero. Why? The realization of what a real friend becomes the true moral of the story, among other things. Ron’s Gone Wrong tells a great story, has a lot of heart, and is loaded with enough action to keep a child’s mind busy.
