Five on the Black Hand Side – October 25th, 1973

WHAT’S IT ABOUT

Mr. Brooks (Leonard Jackson) is an African-American barbershop owner who runs his household with an iron fist. One day, however, Mrs. Brooks (Clarice Taylor) tires of his stern approach and embraces a nonconformist attitude that’s more in line with that of their children, including the philosophical Booker T. (D’Urville Martin) and Gideon (Glynn Turman), a black militant. Soon a battle of wills erupts in the Brooks household, and no one is going to readily back down.

WHY IT’S GONE

As of now, it’s not completely gone – yet. You could buy the DVD on eBay for a crazy amount or from Amazon for an even larger amount. This 1973 film was released on DVD in 2001. I’m not sure when they stopped producing it but I guess they didn’t think future generations would care to see it.
