What’s It About
“The Matrix Resurrections” is a continuation of the story established in the first MATRIX film. It reunites Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as cinematic icons Neo & Trinity in an expansion of their story that ventures back into the Matrix and even deeper down the rabbit hole. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind. 20 years after the first film, the franchise that helped define pop culture at the turn of the century is back for a continuation and extension of the original movie. The Matrix remains in the zeitgeist as a film that has changed the way we look at cinema and reality itself. With its game-changing action and visual effects, The Matrix helped pave the way for films to follow.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
If you are a Matrix geek, this is the film for you. Everything in this movie is meticulously explained to define further the Matrix movies’ entire purpose, including this one. It seems like Lana Wachowski wanted to quiet the trolls when it comes to the aspects of how and why the Matrix could exist. There lies the problem. This movie is so Matrix-y, it becomes a parody of itself. Once the film finally settles on a purpose, it’s Neo’s memories that take center stage. That includes scenes from the previous movies. At times you’re not sure if they’re in on the joke or if we’re supposed to take it as seriously as they act like it is. And what happened to the action. The Matrix franchise is defined by its groundbreaking action scenes. You take that away, and you’re stuck with a bunch of talks and the love story between Neo and Trinity. But wait, didn’t they both die in Revolutions? Why yes, yes they did. Well, as I stated above, this movie explains EVERYTHING. And Neo and Trinity’s existence was one of the weakest explanations of all. Ultimately, that seems to be the only real reason this movie exists; the Neo, Trinity connection. After several back-and-forth scenes between Mr. Anderson and practically every call-back conversation, character, or visual reference (the black cat), The Matrix Resurrections finally settles, albeit almost two-thirds into the film, and concentrates its final efforts on a not-so climactic final scene.
