MOVIESinMO REVIEW

Players of the game will love this movie – maybe. Uncharted is every National Treasure, The Mummy, and Indiana Jones movie all in one. You’re introduced to Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) as the film opens. The Brother of Sam an adventurer Nathan hasn’t seen in years. You later find out what happened to Sam from Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). Sully was the last person with Sam before missing during a treasure hunt. There’s a lot more information that will make little sense unless you play the game. That includes places they mention, people they name-drop, and various cameos. For the people that have never played the game, this movie is all over the place. Even the character’s emotions are confusing. They go through a series of emotions within minutes. Sometimes their entire mood changes from happy to sad, to love, and back to miserable in the same two-minute conversation. The clues are practically spoon-fed, and the dialog is cringeworthy at times. In other words, this movie is just like a video game. It has a lot of action, no matter how crazy it seems. Uncharted should have been a great movie, but the story is stupid (much like the game). The dialog is lacking (emotion, common sense, purpose, take your pick). Unfortunately, you can’t look at Tom Holland without seeing Spiderman. This film, at most, should have been streaming only. I’m sure this will be someone’s guilty pleasure movie one day, but right now, it’s a waste of money and time.
