MOVIESinMO REVIEW

The trailer does not do this film justice. The previews make The Bad Guys seem like a one-dimensional, poorly drawn, badly acted studio cash grab. But within minutes, that all changed due to the opening bank robbery and car chase. I’m sure when they read the script, it was your standard good versus bad movie trope, and for what it’s worth, that’s mostly what it is. What sets this film apart from most is the execution. Every character’s name, skill, and purpose within the group were fully explained during an outlandishly exciting car chase. Mr. Wolf is the apparent leader, but each gang member could easily be a leader based on their particular skill-set. Ms. Tarantula is the tech. Mr. Piranha is the wild one with the bodyguard mentality. Mr. Snake is the stereotypical cold-blooded villain with safe-cracking skills and the best friend of Mr. Wolf. Then there’s Mr. Shark. He’s the master of disguise. Since this is a cartoon, no one knows he’s a shark when he is in disguise. I guess they use the same principle as people not knowing Clark Kent is Superman with glasses on. Other than that, the story is excellent, the animation is the style being used in the new animated films, and the action is practically non-stop. Through all of the craziness, The Bad Guys does teach morels like; no one is truly bad. Anyone can change for the better. Everyone deserves a second chance. The list goes on. Luckily, there’s so much happening that kids will never know they’re learning how to be better people. Overall, The Bad Guys is a fantastic film loaded with action and characters you start to care about, even if they’re bad. You feel their pain and understand the circumstances that brought them to the villain’s status. Fans of animation will not be disappointed.
