MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This is what a comedy/action movie at home should be like. It had a decent plot. Nearly every character served a purpose. There were several surprises. And the chemistry between the leads was as good as it would be, considering the considerable age difference. The Lost City is the type of film that Sandra Bullock shines in. She was the straight character, while Channing Tatum was great as the regular jock-like guy. It’s the kind of story that could only work in a comedy. Loretta Sage (Bullock) reluctantly goes on a promotional tour for her new novel. Allen (Tatum) is the Fabio-ish face of her stories. Loretta gets kidnapped by a billionaire. Loretta’s PR person and Allen enlist the help of a former Navy SEAL to rescue Ms. Sage. At this point, the movie was trying to keep my interest, but I felt it was missing something. Daniel Radcliffe was the perfect bad guy. Although he was more focused on finding a long-lost relic. This obsession pushed him over the edge, and therefore, he became an instant villain. It was funny in parts, like the leeches scene, but it would have been better if it was just a “Made For TV movie” so I could watch it at home. That’s not a bad thing. It’s a decent borderline slapstick film with your standard Hollywood plot and outcome. So, if you’ve seen the trailer, in a media sea of redundancy, The Lost City is exactly as good or bad as you think it is.
