MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This is how you make a sequel. A better story and better animation are all it took to make Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 100% better than the original. This movie relies almost entirely on the charisma of Puss, and he is excellent. The trailers do not do this movie justice. This film opens with a very self-absorbed Puss who is so into himself that he honestly thinks he can’t be defeated – ever. He sings about his adventures, battles and beats anyone effortlessly, and as always, works alone. This creates the catalyst for the entire film. As shown in the trailer, Puss realizes he is down to his last life of nine. Ultimately, filled with fear, he decides to hide and give up his swashbuckling life. So far, the movie has been thoroughly entertaining and, surprisingly, getting better. Watching Puss fall from his proverbial righteousness and into the arms of the town cat-lady was hilarious. Even after losing everything, he still refused to humble himself. That was the theme throughout. As the film continues, we meet some old friends, like Kitty Softpaws, and acquire new ones, like a stray dog pretending to be a cat. Several lessons were learned by the movie’s end, as we all knew they would be, since this is a fairy tale-ish type of story. And in the ongoing tradition of the Shrek franchise (and every good fairy tale), you leave the theater with a feeling of satisfaction. Finally, a family film that was worth the price of admission.
