Dr. Alithea Binnie is an academic and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she encounters a Djinn who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. Eventually, she makes a wish that surprises them both.

Based on the trailer, this movie was a must-see. Two great actors where one is a Genie (Djinn) and the other is the “Master.” It’s advertised as an adult Aladdin, but that is so far from what it is that they should be sued. 3000 Years of Longing is a love story, albeit from the experiences of the djinn. So why is the Genie telling stories instead of giving wishes? Because Dr. Alithea Binnie, the finder of the bottle, doesn’t trust his intentions. This attitude of hers plays out throughout the film with no real point or purpose other than for the Djinn to tell stories of his life. While these tales were meant to entice the doctor into making her three wishes, they didn’t have the power to keep me or the other ten people in the theater interested enough to care. The Doctor wanted to be a different master by stating not to be his master. But everything she said or did was completely counterproductive. She’s not the master but she was. She didn’t want to make a wish, but she had to. She wanted him to be free but her wishes stated otherwise. Both actors are great in their field but putting them together for this movie was a mistake. They had zero chemistry as they delivered their lines making it very hard to believe the fantasy. 3000 Years of Longing dragged along with no real purpose, and by the end, you’re so disappointed that you wonder why you stayed past the first 30 minutes.
