MOVIESinMO REVIEW
I expected to be blown away with a great story and an even better actor. Unfortunately, Idris left me speechless for all the wrong reasons. Dr. Nate Daniels (Elba) travels to his deceased wife’s homeland to assumedly reconnect with his daughters. Their vacation of memories quickly turns into the safari nightmare they will never forget when the lion from hell decides to attack any and all humans within the areas he has claimed as his territory. During these tense cat and mouse moments, the doctor’s family is attacked by poachers. By this point, you’ve found out what happened to the mother, the type of relationship the parents had, and what this trip meant to the family. The story was strong, although relatively slow in some parts. But the things that truly hurt Beast could not be ignored. That includes his older daughter’s constant bickering about personal matters instead of dealing with the enormous mad cat on the warpath. It reminded me of those movies where someone gets saved and stops to talk or kiss during their escape. The other blaring problem was the lion. I’m sure it was CGI, and I have no problem with that, but there’s a big fight scene between the doctor and the lion that ruins the believability of the entire story. It’s a horrible climatic build-up in a ninety-minute movie that leaves you with feelings of disappointment and anger.
