WHAT’S IT ABOUT
From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink: “Ant-Man and The Wasp.” In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Lang (Rudd) grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne (Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas) with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside The Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from their past.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This movie starts two years after the first one. Hank Pym and his daughter Hope are on the run, and Scott Lang is on house arrest caused by his involvement with the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. The police have been waiting for Scott to screw up while his daughter Cassie, is the only one that still believes in him. Once all of the main characters are introduced, the real story starts. Hank and Hope are building a machine to help them get to the quantum realm. Scott is getting apparent dream messages and feels compelled to call Hank. Detectives, police and the FBI raid Scott’s apartment regularly. Luis, Dave, and Kurt (and Scott) have a security business that’s not doing too well. Ava Starr, also known as Ghost, Bill Foster, formally Goliath, and Sonny Burch, a black market dealer, all play integral parts in moving the story forward. This movie is definitely has a more family-oriented feel to it, unlike the other Marvel films that are more machismo-action themed. The toned-down wholesome feel of Ant-Man and the Wasp is a much-needed break from all of the continuous weapons brandishing that takes center stage in other Marvel films. Ant-Man 2 does have action, cool fight scenes, and awesome weapons but it does not distract from the main story which is family. If you have not seen the 2015 Ant-Man, there will be jokes and references in Ant-Man 2 you will not get. The story will still make sense because our key players continually remind you what happened in the first movie. So, for the people that have not seen the first Ant-Man, it would be better to see that film first. With that being said, Ant-Man and the Wasp is a great movie that completes the Marvel story we have seen so far.
