MOVIESinMO REVIEW

Another over-the-top action flick for Dwayne Johnson. Is it any good? That depends on who you ask. Let me start with the crowd that will hate it. The haters would say, it’s a stupid movie about a guy with unimaginable skills trying to save his family from a burning building. The crowd that loved it would say, it’s an action-packed version of Die Hard mixed with the intensity of Towering Inferno and a touch of every family ever made. Well, they’re both kind of right. It is a movie about a guy with military training and FBI negotiating skills, and he is trying to save his family from a burning building. It is reminiscent of Die Hard by having one man after a group of terrorists, but that’s not the whole story here. As for reminding anyone of The Towering Inferno, the fire in Skyscraper was intentional and only had Will Sawyer’s (Dwayne Johnson) family in it. They destroyed a lobby in The Matrix and a hospital in The Dark Knight, but you can’t say Skyscraper copied them, so stop with the comparisons. Skyscraper is 102 minutes of fun and action. There were a lot of edge of your seat scenes mixed with some WTF stuff sprinkled in. I know a movie called Skyscraper may seem like it’s a boring, uneventful film but if you’ve seen any of Mr. Johnson’s movies, you know most of them are fun, family films with lots of heart. He didn’t get to where he’s at by making stupid decisions. Besides, his fans know he has the charisma to carry a movie, no matter how absurd you think the concept is. So grab the kids and go see this fun action movie.
