What’s It About
Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge. To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
It was Inevitable, and we all saw it coming. They finally made a beginning for The Purge. It has become the new norm that every movie, no matter how old or what genre it is, will have an origin story to answer the questions most of us never wanted to know. The First Purge is no different, and I will admit that I was wondering how such a deplorable law could have come into existence. After seeing the trailers, I was immediately upset because this latest entry seemed to be racially motivated and The Purge series has never relied on racism to prove its point or move the story along. Well, I was half right. The First Purge does use racism as its motivation. It also uses human nature, greed, and political gain as the other reasons behind the start of it. A sociological test is the “official” reason given to the public as to why this is being conducted. Unfortunately, the real reasons are far more devious. An organization called The New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) needed this experiment to work and with the help of Dr. May Updale, was able to get approval from the government. The racial motivation of the experiment is never hidden but also never directly addressed as racial. The experiment is used to eradicate the poor and underprivileged. The familiarities between this movie and the current state of the U.S. is not by accident as several interviews and news stories have stated. Overall, The First Purge is along the same plane as the other three but with a more racial feel.
