MOVIESinMO REVIEW
They finally did it. They made a Dungeons & Dragons movie worth watching, and it has (almost) everything you could want. There are plenty of references for the gaming novice and many callbacks for the D&D experts. The team is made up of the standard crew. A sorcerer named Simon, a rogue named Forge, a barbarian named Holga, and the self-appointed leader, Edgin, the bard. They have help from other game characters and plenty of villains to keep things moving. And since this is a Dungeons & Dragons-based movie, there is magic everywhere and weird creatures to help move the story along. There are new friendships, betrayals, and plenty of “what else were we going to do” moments. The movie’s plot was for Elgin to steal the Tablet of Resurrection to right a wrong he created. This was the reason for the team, but as you know, a D&D journey holds many surprises, and, as they are called in many games, side missions added to the craziness of it all. The special effects were great, the scenery was incredible, and it was smart and funny without being Hollywood silly or cringeworthy stupid like that D&D film from 2000. I would love to see a sequel, and since it’s based on a game, the concept shouldn’t matter much. Just keep it faithful and entertaining.
