MOVIESinMO REVIEW

Marvel films have always tried to keep some degree of humor in their movies, but this third Ant-Man movie goes full-on comedy with a lot of visual eye candy and dialog that only a twelve-year-old could love. Like the other Ant-Man movies, Scott Lang always presented himself in a light-hearted way. He was the everyday man with a sense of humor that knew how to assess a situation. When he made a joke, it was at appropriate times, and no one’s life was in peril. For the new film, Scott’s personality must have affected the entire cast because everybody got jokes this time, and it didn’t matter how dangerous the situation was. But it doesn’t matter, considering the only lives in peril are those of the main cast. Besides the apparent disregard for life, they decided to double down on the comedy by adding unnecessary characters for comic relief. That includes the very unnecessary Bill Murray character. His inclusion was strictly for love interest comedy with Pym’s wife, the original Wasp, and the person rescued in Ant-Man 2, Janet Van Dyne. She is the only one that knew the whole story of Kang the Conquerer, and for reasons unknown, she never told her family about him or any of the stuff in the quantum realm. (she did have a reason, but it was stupid). The rest of the movie is spent on Kang stuff. So between Kang and Janet, the story is shown, told, and visually experienced through a barrage of dad jokes, sexual innuendos, and an annoyingly bad CGI slug-like character named Veb. The best thing about Ant-Man 3 is that there is always something happening. The action practically never stops. This is good for keeping younger moviegoers entertained, but the constant use of certain words, like dick, being said over and over might be a bit cringy for most parents. As for the story, it’s not as coherent as the first two entries, but it does set up future movies for the rest of the Marvel universe. Unfortunately, that is the best and only thing Quantumania is good for. So turn your brain off and go see it.
