WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Brodie Torrance saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island – only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare’s help, and will learn there’s more to Gaspare than meets the eye.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This film was as simple and plain as they come. The title says it all – Plane, but it should say Plain. It started ok, as they introduced the leading players. There was even time for some background info on some of the characters. Twenty minutes later, nothing but a whole lot of nothing. So the plot is simple. Mike Colter plays a captured fugitive being extradited. There’s a co-pilot, some stewards, and approximately fifteen random passengers on the flight from Singapore. The pilot, Gerald Butler, is Scottish, and after the flight, he will be with his daughter a few hours before the New Year’s countdown. But as you know from the trailers, the plane crash-lands due to a storm and ends up on one of the islands in the Philippines. The movie gets better at this point, but it still needs to work on pace and story. Mike Colter’s criminal character was a one-dimensional badass, while Butler played the pilot determined to do whatever it took to get his passengers and plane back. Several contact attempts to the tower and an army of island radicals later somehow made this film a couple of steps above a direct-to-video release. Still not worth the full admission of a summer blockbuster, but it’s what you would expect in a January release.
