MOVIESinMO REVIEW
An unlikely sequel to an unlikely hit. Extraction was a surprise hit for Netflix, so it’s no surprise to anyone that they would find a way to make a sequel. I’m glad they did because Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is worth it. The first movie was a mission that delved into the complexities of an extraction. This movie is a lot more personal. You see reasons why Tyler continues to do what he does and why he’s so good at it. He’s dedicated to his job, the mission, and his team. But he has a half-assed death wish when he’s in the field. Tyler is a broken man because of his family’s past, which makes Extraction 2 so unpredictably great. This movie has so much going for it. I’m surprised it didn’t have a national theater release. The plot is more complex, personal, and less linear than the first film. The side stories definitely add to the complexity of the overall action. And the action is the best part of Extraction 2. It’s as up close and hard-hitting as to be expected. Tyler and his team do what they do best and sneak past all types of security. But like any, if not all, action films, something has to go wrong, which forces a plan B. This is when all the best fighting, shooting, and killing happen. Chris Hemsworth is great, as usual, and his team has stepped up their combat skills from the last film. Not much can be said without spoiling it, but you might want to see the first one to get the whole story.
