MOVIESinMO REVIEW

A new movie, some new powers, and a few callbacks to the first film should have been enough for this sequel to resonate with its audience. On some levels, it does, but that’s all it does. It’s a whole lot of “Hey, I know who that is,” but if you want to do it right, the audience should have been saying, “OMG, how did they do that?” If you’re putting time and money into a theatrical production, it needs to have more than a few Hollywood voices that no one in its demographic will care to know. The specific appropriate age range for children is 1 to 6, according to their website. As for the movie itself, it’s along the same levels as the one before it. You know, the typical bad guy, a female this time named Victoria Vance, out to prove something to everyone and make a name for themselves in the science community. She has good intentions, but her version of helping is distorted and fueled by anger that somehow makes perfect sense to her. And since this is a PAW Patrol movie, Victoria’s pets are kittens. Every scene is very colorful, and the action is nearly non-stop. All conversations are basic and focus on one thing at a time. Ryder, the boy leader of the team, always has something positive to say. On the opposite end, the villain is very clear about the bad things she does as she announces that she does not care. And like any decent children’s show/movie, there has to be a moral. The first film focused on the same things as the TV show: friendship, teamwork, courage, and problem-solving. This time, it was all about loving yourself and realizing no matter how small you think you are, everyone has qualities that make them special in their own way. Overall, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie never strays from its winning format, they just added new toys for your kids to ask for.

OUR RATING – A MORALLY SAFE 6
