MOVIESinMO REVIEW
What’s going on with Mr. Fox? It seems like when his movies are theatrical releases, the production value is so much better. The story is better, and they’re edited in a way that omits unnecessary scenes used by cheaper films to waste time and add to the runtime. His Netflix features have a certain cheapness to them. Project Power (2020), Day Shift (2022), and now They Cloned Tyrone all have the same amateur, cheap, and half-done production value with the efforts of an intern filmmaker. I am so tired of seeing Black people in films revert to that same uneducated way of expressing themselves, along with every negative stereotype White people have accused us of. They Cloned Tyrone has a decent concept, some great actors, and a message that needs to be heard. The problem with movies like this is that no matter how great the message may be, many viewers will never get it. All they see is the foolishness, and all they hear is the ignorance. They Cloned Tyrone forces you to think. It opens in a drug and gang-filled hood showing the “normal” dealer, Fontaine, collecting his money. After one collection point, he’s killed, or so we think. From then on, the movie tries to insert messages to give viewers a better understanding of how and why people like Fontaine exist. There’s a sci-fi aspect that tries to keep the film interesting, but because of the confusing and Blaxploitation way it’s presented, any positive message is moot. Other than that, They Cloned Tyrone isn’t worth the two hours it takes from you, although, the overall message in the final act is worth a listen if you’re willing to hear it.
