MOVIESinMO REVIEW
With the addition of Retribution, Liam Neeson is just another actor who falls under the category of “Actors Who’ve Made A Career Off Of Playing The Same Person Over And Over.” In Retribution, Matt Turner (Neeson) is a financier. His job title doesn’t matter because he’s ultimately the same victimized character. This time, a serial bomber is seemingly blowing up random people. The victims all have a connection to Matt. The next victim is Mr. Turner and his very ungrateful and disrespectful kids. The majority of this film is in the car with Matt and his kids. The assailant gives Matt directions on what to do, say, and where to go. The only two rules are – don’t inform authorities, or the bomber will blow up the car and not to get out of the vehicle, or you will trigger the weight-sensitive bomb under the seat and blow up. So, how intense can this movie be if Matt is inside a car THE WHOLE TIME? It depends on how much action you want. Like Liam’s other “victim” films, he gets threatened and vows revenge once he can’t take it anymore. Then he eventually starts kicking butt. Well. that can’t happen in Retribution because LIAM CAN’T GET OUT OF THE CAR! So, for an hour and a half, you get to see Matt Turner’s very intense facial expressions and listen to his raspy voice while he drives around doing whatever the guy on the phone wants him to do. There’s the occasional car chase with the usual high-dollar property destruction. And there was one scene that made me say wow. Other than that, I hated his kids, mainly the son. His wife was a bitch. His boss was the standard a-hole, and nothing or nobody made me want to see this film past the first twenty minutes. Even Mr. Neeson was phoning it in (no pun intended). Retribution is for the true Liam fans ONLY.
