MOVIESinMO REVIEW

For me, movies that open with an interrogation are either really good or really bad. Dangerous Waters had a chance to be really good, but instead, it bores you with slow dialog that goes nowhere, several missed opportunities to be great, and a complete waste of Ray Liotta’s talent. There’s no chemistry with any of the characters. No one is likable, so you could care less if they live or die. Even the whole way this film sets everything up was just weak. A mother named Alma and her new boyfriend, Derek, go sailing on his boat. Accompanied by Alma’s daughter, Rose, they are faced with some problems. But before any problems arose, the conversations between the three of them were painful to listen to and even worse to see. Rose should have never been there, but whatever, I guess she was the catalyst this decrepit film needed to get to the eventual point. This movie is only about one hundred minutes long, and the first twenty were poorly used to set up nothing. The next and first big moment of the film explained more, but there was a mere thirty-five minutes left, and I still had no empathy for anybody. In the last twenty minutes, you get the “full” explanation of what’s going on. While the overall reason for what happened can make a very good film, Dangerous Waters took a good plot and removed all emotions, leaving viewers with conflicting feelings about how they should feel regarding this poorly acted movie’s subject matter.
