MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This film opens as Mason Pettis (Cena) discusses life challenges and opportunities over visuals of his life from a young age to his current position as an Army special forces operative on a mission in Paldonia. His narrative ends with him being discharged from the service and miserably working as an attorney. Mason’s wife was another thorn in his life that he still wanted to be with and provide for, considering her attitude towards him. So when the opportunity was offered, Pettis left his desk job and became a bodyguard for a journalist named Claire Wellington. This is when Freelance starts to get interesting. Claire has to interview the dictator of Paldonia. The last place Pettis was as a soldier and the reason he wasn’t in the service anymore. This borderline boring movie picked up the pace and became an action flick. After several ambushes and ultimate reveals, Freelance turned into a fun action comedy that never took itself that seriously but never let up on the overall quality. The shootouts were fun, and the comedic banter between Clair, Mason, and Venegas the dictator, was non-stop. Sadly, the story was somewhat predictable, and multiple scenes were astonishingly unrealistic, but this is an action comedy, and Freelance delivers on both. Expect to be entertained, not educated.
