MOVIESinMO REVIEW

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie is a total technical marvel. Cameras are everywhere, catching every moment of Taylor Swift’s epic concerts. It’s better than being there because now you have all those multiple angles and extreme close-ups all to yourself. This was filmed at the SoFi Stadium, where she belted out her hits, danced, and flashed her trademark smile for almost three hours straight. The cameras zoom in on her and her crew as they cover the massive stage, which lights up all cool to match each era of her music. They even fly up high to capture the crowd. The editing team pulls off some movie magic, combining performances from three nights in Inglewood, California. So, you’re in the middle of the concert chaos, but then they pull back to show you the big picture. Regardless of which era of Swift’s music she’s revisiting, her ability to connect emotionally with the songs and the audience is what really shines. She’s the awesome Amazon from her latest album, Midnights, but she’s also the plucky up-and-comer from the early days. Swift is the delightful dork and the vengeful vixen, yet somehow, she makes everyone in that massive crowd feel like they’re her BFF and soulmate. It’s like this impressive balancing act of staying relatable while being a mega superstar, and you see it throughout the whole movie. They cover all the big hits, from catchy earworms like “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood” to playful anthems like “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.” But they also take time to soak in the achingly vivid songwriting during the “folklore” and “evermore” eras. The performance of Champagne Problems on a moss-covered piano and Betty on the acoustic guitar in the Folklore cabin hits you right in the feels. And let’s talk about the details! The movie lets you notice all the little things, like how Swift’s microphones change to match each era. Plus, you can appreciate the incredible detail in her costume design. It’s like, even if you had concert tickets, you wouldn’t catch these details. The whole experience is over 165 minutes, which might be a lot if you’re not a hardcore Swiftie (and honestly, it’s pretty tiring by the end). But just as a cinematic ride, “The Eras Tour” is crazy entertaining.
