What’s It About
One cold, stormy night in New York City, a mysterious object falls from the sky and smashes through the window of a rundown apartment building. It is an egg, and a strange little spider emerges from it. Charlotte, a rebellious 12-year-old girl obsessed with comic books, discovers the creature. Charlotte feels isolated despite her stepfather Ethan’s best efforts to connect with her through their comic book co-creation, Fang Girl. Her mother and Ethan are distracted by their new baby and are struggling to cope, leaving Charlotte to bond with the spider. Keeping it as a secret pet, she names it Sting. As Charlotte’s fascination with Sting increases, so does its size. Growing at a monstrous rate, Sting’s appetite for blood becomes insatiable. Neighbors’ pets start to go missing, and then the neighbors themselves. Soon, Charlotte’s family and the eccentric characters of the building realize that they are all trapped, hunted by a ravenous supersized arachnid with a taste for human flesh – and Charlotte is the only one who knows how to stop it.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
Sting is a horror movie that promises to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story centers around Charlotte, a young girl trying to adjust to her new life after her half-brother’s birth. She finds comfort in her stepfather, Ethan, a comic book artist and the super for a Brooklyn apartment complex. However, things take a turn for the worse when a small ball of fire crashes through the building window, and a spider-like creature emerges. At first, Charlotte is delighted to have a new pet, and she names it Sting. But as the creature grows bigger and reveals its un-spiderlike talents, the residents of the building must band together to fight off a growing predator. They will face a fate worse than a quick death if they fail. The movie features impressive CGI and practical visual effects that make you anxious and scared. The director does an excellent job of creating a charming, detailed, and moody scene in which he can terrorize his characters. The film moves quickly but steadily, pacing the action to spin a pretty silk turn and not abandoned cobwebs. However, while Sting is a fun B-movie that will appeal to horror fans, it does have some flaws. The last 10 minutes of the film are rushed, and it feels like the filmmakers are trying to make up for the slow pace of the rest of the movie. Some characters feel underdeveloped, and the plot could have been fleshed out more. Overall, if you’re in the mood for a scary movie with impressive visuals, “Sting” is worth a watch. Just don’t expect it to be a cinematic masterpiece.
