WHAT’S IT ABOUT
One month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running for a no-holds-barred game of tag — risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take one another down. This time, the game coincides with the wedding of the only undefeated player. What should be an easy target soon becomes an all-out war as he knows they’re coming to get him.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
Two hours lost. Hereditary is one of the longest, slowest, and pointless movies I’ve seen this year. A little more than 30 minutes into the film and something FINALLY happens to wake me up. Yes, now the real movie starts. Wrong again. After such a traumatic scene, there one outcry and then things slow down – way down – again. Did I miss something? If this were the 70’s, I might be (a little) scared, but this is 20 – G#@%*#NM – 18 and my attention span can be lost halfway through a commercial.
According to the official website: “When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited.”
That plot is very slowly explained throughout the movie – VERY SLOWLY. Was this movie scary? NO – I was too pissed off by all of the plot holes and ignorance of everybody involved to immerse myself within whatever story was being spoon-fed to me. That reminded me of another awful film – the original Blair Witch Project in 1999. A film where you had to be scared just because the people in the movie were scared, even if nothing was making sense. If you feel compelled to see this movie, leave me a comment (without spoilers) and let me know what I missed.
