WHAT’S IT ABOUT

One month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running for a no-holds-barred game of tag — risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take one another down. This time, the game coincides with the wedding of the only undefeated player. What should be an easy target soon becomes an all-out war as he knows they’re coming to get him.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW

A movie based on a true story is nothing new. A film with four or five friends that grow up and remain, friends, is nothing new. Movies about kid games like Mario Bros., Tron, and Jump in, is nothing new. But when you put them all together and make it a comedy – THAT’S NEW. Unfortunately, like most of those game movies, friend movies, and true stories, they all had good intentions but fell flat fast. Tag over explains how five friends have realistically played tag for more than 30 years and that’s the films main downfall. We all saw the trailers, and we have been hearing about the real story for months, so why did the producers feel it was so important to tell this fact continuously throughout the film. If they had left out the dirty jokes and partial nudity, this could have been a favorite PG-13 movie instead of a rated R disappointment. The first half of TAG is all over the place. The transitions from comedy to heartfelt to slapstick to some sort of action movie was terrible. By the second half, the story was finally starting to come together. In the last 15 minutes, TAG finds its footing and becomes the movie it should have been at the start.  A heartfelt film about five friends using a kids game as an excuse to stay in touch. I can only recommend seeing the last half-hour of this movie unless you really want to look at how and when they started playing this game.
