WHAT’S IT ABOUT
After his wife is killed during a brutal mugging that also leaves him paralyzed, Grey Trace (Logan Marshall-Green, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, PROMETHEUS) is approached by a billionaire inventor with an experimental cure that will “upgrade” his body. The cure – an Artificial Intelligence implant called STEM – gives Grey physical abilities beyond anything experienced and the ability to relentlessly claim vengeance against those who murdered his wife and left him for dead.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
I absolutely love Blumhouse Productions. It’s amazing to see a company that started with Paranormal Activity and Insidious, now delivering such awesome horror and sci-fi movies. One of my favorite movies from them is Upgrade, which blends future tech with old-school ideas in a spectacular way. The movie revolves around the main character, Grey Trace, and his wife, who become victims of an apparent robbery. Tragically, Grey’s wife dies, and he becomes paralyzed. However, a representative from a tech company offers him a solution by implanting a “chip” in his spine that can make him walk again. After the procedure, he seeks revenge for his wife’s death. Although the concept isn’t original, the execution is truly amazing. The way Grey starts walking again and hunts down his wife’s killers is visually stunning, making me wish I had a chip in my spine too. Upgrade is a well-paced movie with a gripping plot and well-developed characters that you can easily root for. The interactions between Grey and STEM (the computer chip implant) are priceless, and it’s something I wish I could have with Alexa. As the movie progresses, you discover the real intentions of everyone involved, which changes the entire dynamic of the movie. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves futuristic action films. It’s a definite must-see. However, be warned that this film is rated “R” for intense violence and cursing.
