WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Superman and the rest of the Justice League unite to battle a hulking monster named Doomsday — but it’s ultimately up to the Man of Steel to save the day as the two titans square off in the heart of Metropolis.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
After 11 years, Warner Brothers finally released The Death of Superman. This version is a much closer adaptation of the comic book than the one released in 2007. The story is the same, but the delivery is much different. In The Death of Superman, the man of steel is well-established as a world hero, and the rest of the Justice League. After Superman stops some high-tech criminals, Lex Luther gets involved, showcasing his ongoing hatred for the Kryptonian. The real story starts after some kind of meteorite crashes and an unknown creature comes out. The creature, later dubbed Doomsday, embarks on a serious killing spree. Once in Metropolis, every member of the League tries taking the monster down, unsuccessfully. Superman finally appears, and an extreme battle ensues. Compared to Superman Doomsday, this movie has much more graphics. As I mentioned earlier, the Justice League attacked before Superman showed up, unlike the 2007 version, where Superman looks much older, and there’s no League help. My biggest issue with both films is when Superman lifts Doomsday to perform a bodyslam, he takes him up thousands of miles into the air. If Superman is so concerned with the safety of humans, why didn’t he fly him to an unincorporated part of the globe instead of directly back down to Metropolis? The Death of Superman has a solid story and is visually better than the earlier one, and according to DC Comics, this is only part one in a two-part storyline. I hope DC would consider a trilogy instead because of the post-credit scenes shown. If they keep it as is, I’m sure there will be more stories regarding Superman’s death on the forthcoming DC streaming channel.
