MOVIESinMO REVIEW
Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire opens in Hollow Earth, where Kong is chased and fighting with what looks like the monster version of a pack of hyenas. After a massively excellent beginning, it’s human time. Dr. Ilene Andrews is focused on Jia, her adopted daughter from Kong Island. Jai has been having mental issues that become an essential part of the overall story. Then there’s the tech whistleblower Bernie Hayes and a veterinarian named Trapper. They add humor and heart when needed, but honestly, other than exposition, the humans could have been completely removed from the movie. Meanwhile, Godzilla absorbed so much radiation to prepare for an unknown showdown that his back and energy turned pink. As for Kong, he moped around until he found a young ape that led him to a tribe of hostile apes enslaved by the Skar King, an evil ape as tall as Kong, carrying a bone whip. He also controlled a titan with a freezing breath ray powerful enough to freeze and kill Kong. As part of the MonsterVerse, the story delves into the characters’ relationships with their place in the world, transforming them from foes to comrades. Visually stunning, the film’s action sequences are a treat for fans of these iconic monsters. The monsters are beautifully designed, and the score adds to the spectacle. The film’s heart lies in Kong’s quest, along with Jia’s quest for belonging and the importance of nature and culture. Despite some logical gaps, the film captures the spirit of classic kaiju films. It’s a thrilling, heartfelt spectacle that will leave you cheering for more. “Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire” is a must-watch for MonsterVerse fans, delivering on both action and emotion.
