MOVIESinMO REVIEW
What The Hell!! There are so many things wrong with this film. It’s like the writers took the middle pages out of several books and said WE’RE DONE. Then since Stallone didn’t want to call it Expendables 4, he used one of his other movie titles. He also had to call in a lot of favors to get that cast. Curtis Jackson, of course, Wes Chatham from the Hunger Games, Jesse Metcalfe from Desperate Housewives, Titus Welliver from Lost, Huang Xiaoming from The Prince of Han Dynasty, the Rocawear model Jaime King, and Dave Bautista, the retired WWE wrestler, bodybuilder and Drax the Destroyer from the Marvel movies. So with a stellar cast, what happened? First, the name. Other than Stalone and Jackson, this film had very little to do with Escape Plan. I would have respected and maybe even like it a bit more if it was called something else – anything else. Second, whoever did the makeup, especially on Stallone, needs to never work in the entertainment industry- EVER. The bruises looked like rouge, the blood looked like Kool-Aid, but Mr. Stallone was the worse. His entire face reminded me of my grandmother, right down to the eyebrows. Lastly, the script. There was no focus. This film is all over the place. Right from the start, I was lost. I thought I was watching NCIS or The Brave based on the level of SEAL team-like behavior at the start of this movie. Then we travel one year into the future, and now it’s all about satellites and tech giants. Somewhere within the tech fight, Stallone’s men get captured, and the film takes yet another turn. Now the movie is about a high-tech prison named Hades but nicknamed the Zoo by the warden. At this point, I have no idea what this film is about anymore. It stopped being entertaining some time ago, and now I just want it to end. Unfortunately, they added several more elements, and there was still a lot of movie left. Loads of brutal fights within a prison that looks like they stole the schematics from Resident Evil. Leftover electronics from every sci-fi movie ever made. A script that felt like every actor wrote their own part. I could go on and on. In the end Escape Plan 2, is a mess of a movie with no clear direction and a pointless plot. Apparently, this is Stallone’s “baby,” so there are plans to make a third one – whatever.
