Die Hart 2: Die Harter – May 30, 2024

Hart plans an innovative action film with unscripted, unexpected scenes to cement his legacy as the greatest. However, a blind spot leads him to fall victim to a vengeful plot from his past.

Just when it seemed like Kevin Hart had realized that the “action star” image wasn’t a good fit for him and that Netflix was the only platform supporting him, he surprised us. Despite his previous movie “Lift” being a low point, Amazon decides to make a sequel to his not-so-great film “Die Hart.” Unfortunately, the sequel doesn’t seem to have anything positive going for it. It appears to be poorly written, has no straightforward plot, and just feels like a cash grab. This is disappointing, especially since I was starting to appreciate Kevin Hart more as an actor. It seems like he’s becoming more of a hit-or-miss actor, leaning more towards misses these days, as evidenced by the disappointing “Die Hart 2.” For those unfamiliar, “Die Hart” was a ten-episode series (followed by eight episodes in “Die Hart 2”) on the now-defunct app Quibi in 2020 and later on The Roku Channel in 2023. Die Hart 2 continues the story of Hart’s character’s pursuit of becoming an action star, ultimately leading to starring in an action-packed reboot of “The Jeffersons” and a feature film titled “Die Hart.” This experience further inflates his ego, on and off-camera. In “Die Hart 2: Die Harter,” Kevin Hart plays a wealthy, in-demand comedy star who decides to do his stunts and faces the consequences of firing his stuntman. Despite potential merits in the fight scenes and chases, the sequel lacks humor. Kevin Hart fails to sell his “improvised script” action extravaganza to a studio and resorts to a desperate pitch involving a staged restaurant takeover. What follows is a chaotic turn of events involving kidnapping and a struggle for survival. Even with big-name stars like John Cena joining the cast, the sequel receives scathing criticism for its poor script and lack of humor. It feels like Kevin Hart is spitting out content solely for financial gain, with little regard for quality. His eagerness for every opportunity has led him to lose sight of the value and impact of his work. His success and financial gain seem to have become the main focus, overshadowing the quality of his content. Ultimately, Kevin Hart is prioritizing quantity over quality, which is reflected in his recent projects.

OUR RATING – A HARTLESS 2
