WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
I was wondering why they kept pushing this movie back. What’s wrong with the people producing live-action films at Sony? It’s very apparent that their movie-making skills are far below Marvel’s. Yes, I know Morbius is supposed to be a Marvel movie, BUT it’s Sony’s property, and they are solely responsible for this trainwreck. Sony is trying to do what Marvel did by using lesser-known characters to kick-start their cinematic world. So far, they are screwing it up royally. Both Venom movies were ok, but nothing close to what Iron-Man did for Marvel. Now they’re attempting to leach off Spiderman’s success (yes, I know they own him, but he’s on loan), and it’s still not working. Morbius is an interesting character that should have been the breakout hit Sony was looking for. Instead, they overloaded it with stories that go nowhere, plotholes that didn’t need to exist, and a ton of “if they would have only did xxx” moments. Jared Leto as Morbius wasn’t a bad choice visually. But his performance as a comic book character sucks. Sadly, they forgot how bad he was in Suicide Squad and Justice League as The Joker. Now he’s Morbius, and the entire film is like watching a very long episode of a series that wants you to stick around for the next one. Then and only then will you know the answer to all of your justified questions. Honestly, Morbius would have been 100% better if it was a weekly series. But it’s not and what we have is a sad reminder of how lousy superhero movies used to be back in the day. Captain America (1990) was just awful. Catwoman (2004) was good for still pictures. And Fantastic Four (1994) was never officially released. The pacing of this film was all over the place. It took nearly 30-minutes for Dr. Morbius to morph into the living vampire. The remaining 70-minutes were slapped together so severely that nothing made sense, no matter how fast or slow the action was on the screen. By the end of the film, I didn’t care who lived, who died, or who the surprise characters were. I just wanted it to be over.
