What’s It About
Five thousand years ago, Kahndaq was a melting pot of cultures, wealth, power and magic. But most of us had nothing, except for the chains around our necks. Kahndaq needed a hero… instead, they got me. I did what needed to be done, and they imprisoned me for it. Now, five thousand years later, I am free. And I give you my word: no one will ever stop me again. I have a knack for destroying bullies. But there are some who think I need help: Hawkman, Dr Fate, and their new recruits Cyclone and Atom Smasher. They call themselves the Justice Society, an organization that believes in fighting for truth and justice. Well, I’m going to teach them, the only beliefs I fight for are mine. Welcome to truth, justice and the Black Adam way! . . Black Adam
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
Apparently, DC is following in Disney’s filmmaking footsteps. They’ve turned another bad guy into a misunderstood good guy. But the word we use now is the anti-hero. Black Adam, or Teth Adam as he’s called throughout the movie, is Shazam. The big difference is he didn’t get his powers from the wizard. Black Adam’s powers were given to him willingly by his son. He became fueled by rage when his son was killed (it’s in the trailer). Five thousand years later, he is awakened and is on a killing spree. This is the reason why we are supposed to feel empathy for him. He’s still a bad guy, but I guess it’s OK as long as he kills hundreds of bad guys while only endangering a few innocents during his justice rampage. At this point, this film has taken from several successful movies, but once Black Adam meets a boy named Amon, you get immediate vibes of John Conner in The Terminator. Dwayne Johnson’s portrayal of Black Adam is nearly flawless due to his charismatic style and immense likeability. The fact that there were multiple characters for Teth Adam to play off of made this movie that much more enjoyable. The action is great, and the story is relatable. The Justice Society seemed somewhat wasted, mainly used as Black Adams punching bags and comic relief. Ultimately, I like the stop-taking-yourself-so-serious direction DC is taking. Now, if they could only give that billionaire bat something to smile about.
